ECL creates smart router to proactively protect against attackers (Public)

You might have heard in the news lately that many high profile companies such as Sony, Home Depot, Staples, K-mart, and even our government's systems had been compromised. You be surprised that almost 100% of small businesses were hacked. In fact, it is hard to find any small businesses in our own client base today which had not been attacked by intruders from the outside.

Lately, things are much worse. We are seeing a typical server exposed to the Internet would attract hundreds of attempts a day up from just a dozen attempts a day a few years ago. These hacking attempts not only slows down your server and causes intermittent problems but when the hackers do break in, they can be downright detrimental.

With so much hacking , we recommend never to directly expose your equipment, particularly remote desktops, to the Internet. We recommend always use some kind of 2 or 3 stage VPN to log on to your equipment. And, we recommend that you always run your business equipment through a smart router of some sort, instead of a dumb router.

To deal with attackers, ECL Computing had created a "smart" router. It is a security appliance that has the following additional abilities over a dumb router.

  • Unlike other routers, it uses open source code and it has no known backdoors.
  • It is based on a fast, solid-state PC with MS Window's easy and friendly user interface.
  • It uses standard off-the-shelf components and is extremely reliable and has a small MTTR.
  • It's very smart. It's driven by a fast database and constantly updated rules. It can replace multiple dumb routers.
  • It can improve server performance and reliability by off-loading VPN and virus scanning to a dedicated.
  • It can predict hacking attempts and stop them using a constantly updated databases and Intelligent algorithms.
  • It can Identify which machines amongst hundreds you have that have malware installed or have been hacked.
  • It can block viruses from any internal devices (not just PCs) which send spam email to or scanning other computers.
  • It can monitor your entire network and proactively seek out of and block threats before they become a real problem.
  • It can reduce your chances of being cut off by your ISP by autonomously shutting out offending workstation s or mobile device.
  • The price is not much more than a standard PC. There is no continual charges or subscriptions fees. It is far more cost effective than other alternatives.

Almost all our mission critical and highly secured clients have smart routers installed. Please contact us to see if you should use one of these smart routers.
